Narromine Fly In, 2010

The Fly Away to Narromine on Sunday 12th September was blessed with a welcome change in the weather.

The numbers were a little down compared with earlier Fly Aways this year resulting in 10 adventurers in 6 aircraft departing around 10am for Narromine.

The spectacle of Burrendong Dam (81% full) and the vivid yellow of the canola crops contrasting with dark green wheat crops & pastures kept the cameras clicking in all aircraft.

We had a picnic lunch in the impressive Narromine Gliding Club premises and a close up inspection of the Wright Flyer, an exact replica of the Wright Brothers first aircraft, was a highlight.

The Narromine Airpark is becoming very well established and, with the Golf Course and excellent 4 runway Airfield (04/22 &11/29) adjacent, is proving to be quite a drawcard with many of our fellow aviators.

This was the last Fly Away for 2010 and planning is underway organising Fly Away destinations for 2011 including Weekend and One Day Day trips, more of this later in the year.

There is some talk that one or two of our members are thinking of taking a run out to Cameron’s Corner, the Dig Tree, Birdsville etc., probably around mid to late October.

This could be a 4 or 5 day adventure and worth taking a few days off work for.

This is just an idea, as this trip wasn’t part of our calendar for this year, but we shall keep you up to date should plans “firm up”.

Regards,

John Nicoll BAC
