On Monday night, after battling a long illness, the Club lost one of its longest standing members.
Rod joined the Club in 1965 in the days when the Club was battling to get back on its feet and only had a membership of 35 members.
He learnt to fly with George Campbell of Mudgee, as we all did in those days, and completed his private licence in 1967. He also served on the committee for many years and it was during that time the Club built the first stage of the Club rooms, bought their first aeroplane a Victa 115, and formed the Club into a limited liability company.
Rod also was the co-ordinator of an Air Show, held by the Club in 1970, in conjunction with Bathurst Rotary Club. Whilst retiring from the committee in 1971 Rod remained an active member and supporter of the Club. In 1992 Rod was elected President and served again in that position in 1993.
Whilst retiring again from these duties Rod remained an active member and was awarded Life Membership in 1997.
Whatever Rod took on he did it with great enthusiasm and it was having people like him on the committee that the Club has grown to what it is today.
The funeral on Monday the 23rd May was well attended by Club members where we said goodbye to a good friend and member for 46 years.
May we extend our sympathy to Alison and her family.
