Although the weather on the day was not very pleasant, 15 fliers turned up for the competition on Sunday June 28. The fact that the competition was held in conjunction with a very successful Open Day no doubt contributed to the good rollup.
Despite the continuous showers coming through, actual flying conditions were not too bad, although those that competed in the morning had the better of the conditions in so far as wind was concerned. Contestants in the afternoon had an 8 to 10 knot crosswind to contend with.
The day consisted of three 1000 feet circuits. The first was a conventional approach and landing, the second a glide approach and the final one a short field. As a whole the performances were quite good and no glaring errors were evident. I did mark the landings a little harder than usual, and gave more points for this area, and also gave points for radio procedures.
It was very pleasing to see members come out just to do their three circuits and landings to get themselves current again. As has always been the case you don’t have to go in the competition if you don’t wish to.
Peter Ticehurst was the winner on the day with 61 points from Brian Harvey with 60 points and Errol Chopping on 58 points. Congratulations.
Thanks to Jerry Trevor-Jones for this report and his hard work in the judge’s seat.
