We are all concerned about the high cost of just maintaining a licence, be it private or
commercial. It's a matter close to everyone's hip pocket nerve.
The costs are probably affecting the amount of flying, which any of us can do.
After all, if we spend the money on administrative charges like the fee
to read and stamp your biennial medical, we can't spend it doing what we most like to do: fly.
As you are probably aware, one solution to the cost problem, which is being
discussed in a number of aviation circles, is for private general aviation
to become self regulating along the lines of the ultralight and light sport
aircraft community, which is now gathered under the banner of Recreational
Aviation Australia. This is the one area of general aviation, which is booming.
Orange Aero Club are hosting a seminar and BBQ on this matter on Saturday night.
If you're interested and want to have a say, you might like to attend. They've got
some industry leaders to speak and discuss some of the ideas. The details are:
Date: Saturday, October 14.
Time: 6.30 pm.
Place: Mahlo Air Hangar, Orange Airport. (It's just next to Orange Aero Club.)
Speakers: Col Rogers, President AOPA,
Paul Middleton, Recreational Aviation Australia,
Bill Hamilton, AOPA
BBQ: $10 per person.
Contact at Orange: Wade Mahlo, phone: 0415247999
If you've got a bit of free time, come along and hear what these leaders
of in general aviation have to say and then give them your opinion.
